(Adam,1985) No one was more surprised than me to find me in 1984 on set as the star of an X-rated film. It wasn’t that I had decided never again to perform in a hardcore movie but my forays were few and far between. My debut in Consenting Adults (1982) had been unplanned – I just jumped into one of the sex scenes. I had come into the business to be a writer and that’s where I focused my attention. I was a high heeled journalist, since 1983, recounting my own adventures and the sex life of the city each month in my Adam magazine column Veronica Vera’s New York. But, one day producers Vince Benedetti and his partner Marc Roberts came to see me and made me an offer I couldn’t refuse.

I had worked with Vince and Marc of Adventure Films in 1983 on a memorable scene in a very silly movie called Getting Ahead, my second hardcore venture. In that scene I played a rich woman with servant problems. In a scene we called “breakfast of champions” my butler (Joey Santini) served me sauages which I slid into my pussy while I sucked on his cock. I cracked a raw egg on the butt of my pretty maid (Annette Heinz) I slid some sausages in my pussy, sucked on my butler’s cock and then broke an egg over my maid’s ass while the butler fucked her doggie style. The action that required the most effort wasn’t the sex but the challenge of getting a hardboiled egg to pop out of the maid’s pussy. Like they say, “Ya gotta have a gimmick.”

I had a great time making the film but it was no erotic triumph. I have always had trouble saying the words written by someone else or playing scenes that seem a little too dumb. That was one of the main reasons that I had not performed in many films. But that did not stop Vince and Marc from asking.

After Getting Ahead they proposed I appear in another of their epics and play a prison guard, described as “a real bitch.” When I read she was supposed to push a female prisoner’s head onto the head of a guard and force her to give hm a blow job, I decided to pass on the project. What a turn off. I wasn’t sure Vince, Marc and I would ever have a real meeting of the minds.

A year later they telephoned with another project, and this one really sparked my interest. Their plan was to do an x-rated news report of Times Square, to capture the feeling of the adult book stores, sex emporiums and commercialized sex havens before these places were destroyed by the City’s Times Square real estate redevelopment plans to sanitize the neighborhood. Time Square was my beat. I had a real love/hate relationship with the Deuce. I told Vince and Marc that I would rather write their movie than appear in it. I showed them my scrapbook full of ADAM columns in which I explored places like Show World the notorious sex emporium and the burlesque houses.

While I suggested storylines from my different experiences, they salivated over photographs of me dressed in corsets and lingerie. But they didn’t feel they had time to invest in a screenplay and they sure didn’t want to spend any money. Their m.o. was to hire a bunch of different people who could perform a variety of sex acts and string the whole thing together. They said it was a formula that worked very well for them. In fact, the script they brought to me that first afternoon, just one week before the shoot, consisted of exactly one half page of dialogue.

They also left me with a video copy of their most recent film, Burlexx, which they considered the best of their oeuvre. We both spent a few days thinking things over. I took a look at Burlexx. It was full of gimmicks like breakfast of champions. At heart, Vince and Mark were corny vaudevillians. Burlexx looked like a lot of fun with no nasty prison matrons in the entire 83 minutes. Plus, could I bear someone else being the reporter – the role I was born to play. So we worked out a compromise. I would appear in the film, which would be tentatively titled “Peekaboo Blue, Peekaboo Pink.” I would play the journalist and write all my own commentary, which meant pretty much the entire script. The rest would be wall to wall sex.

They were happy. I was happy. I thought of the film as a chance to see some of my ideas on the screen and considered my body a little extra honey to sweeten the deal. They liked hiring my body and getting my mind for free, a bargain. We had one common ground: we all wanted to make the movie.

I made my preparations: bought some new undies-a soft, silky pair of bright red tap pants with delicate lace coming up the sides, the kind of panties that can stay on when a lady fucks; just pull the crotch to the side and slide hard cock into exposed pussy. Another preparation was not so pleasant. Being a dark woman, I have a very furry muff. This can be very nice to sink your teeth into but I knew that Larry Revene would not appreciate my lush fur getting in the way of his camera. So I had my pussy waxed. Not the entire mound, enough to leave a landing strip. My waxing was done by a very thorough aesthetician named Carmen who paved the area between my cheeks and let ‘er rip. Ouch! But that’s show biz.
